A detailed guide to understanding Fibromyalgia symptoms, early warning signs, and how they are diagnosed.

  • What Is It? Lupus or Fibromyalgia? What You Need to Know

Among all the syndromes of our days, there are two that excite a continuous fascination on researchers and doctors around the world: Lupus and Fibromyalgia. Both of these medical conditions have long been researched and on both of their causes, many theories have been built. Still, up to now, there is no absolute and complete answer to the questions both doctors and their patients pose about Fibromyalgia and Lupus.

In both of these cases, determining the actual cause behind it is almost impossible, mainly because they show a lot of random symptoms that can differ a lot from one person to another. On Fibromyalgia, the main theory states that it is caused by the abnormal levels of neurochemicals in the human brain, which lead not necessarily to pain itself, but to feeling the pain more stringent.

Other theories claim that environment and genetics are important in determining what actually triggered the Fibromyalgia syndrome, but up to now, no conclusive evidence has been brought.

There are even theories that are based on how the number of vessels in the extremities of the human body can change the way the brain perceives pain. How the other symptoms of the syndrome occur and how they can be so varied and affect multiple parts of one’s body – this still remains a complete mystery.

As for Lupus, things are not clearer either (not even by far, actually). Its causes may be related to a lot of things, including environment and stress (like in the case of Fibromyalgia), but not limited to it. Lupus does seem to “run in the family” and stress does play an important part, but there are other causes behind it as well.

Among these, you can often find infections with CMV (cytomegalovirus), a parvovirus, Hepatitis C virus, and the Epstein-Barr one. Also, exposure to UV light, trichloroethylene (and other chemicals), and certain types of antibiotics (such as the penicillin-based ones) can be causes of the development of Lupus.

The mystery behind the causes of Lupus and of Fibromyalgia is not the only thing that these two medical conditions have in common. Also, some of their symptoms may overlap a lot to the point where misdiagnoses (and thus, poor treatment) occur. Some of the symptoms they have in common include painful joints, swelling of the extremities (in the case of Fibromyalgia only the sensation may occur), fatigue, photosensitivity, and rapid, unexpected shifts in weight can occur.

One thing that is quite particular to Lupus though is the fact that patients can develop butterfly-shaped rashes on various parts of their skin, which is not found in the case of Fibromyalgia. However, a lot of Lupus patients show no such symptom as well.

Furthermore, Lupus can be mortal (and Fibromyalgia cannot directly cause the death of anyone), especially when it gets to affect serious very important parts of the human body. Quite frequently, it can get to affect the kidneys (leading to kidney failure), lungs, the Central Nervous System, the heart, and it can make one’s body more prone to acquire infections or even to develop Cancer.

So how can medical professionals distinguish between Lupus and Fibromyalgia?

A thorough analysis of a patient’s state is key when trying to put a diagnosis and having to choose between Lupus or Fibromyalgia. A series of inquiries will be made by the doctor, as well as a series of examinations to establish how many parts of the body are affected and how they are damaged.

In the case of Lupus, medical professionals will start by analyzing the patient’s symptoms and they will run a series of basic blood tests to determine if he/she has anemia or lacks certain elements in the blood. Furthermore, the doctor will also run an ERS (an Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate) which can determine the presence of autoimmune disease in the body. If the red blood cells settle faster than the usual during this examination, then the patient will become a Lupus or an autoimmune disease suspect.

Other tests that may be run by a doctor to determine exactly if it is Lupus or not that he/she is dealing with include testing the kidneys and the liver (to see if certain enzymes are present or not), testing the urine (to see which is the level of proteins and which is the level of red blood cells in it) and testing for Syphilis (to check the presence of anti-phospholipid antibodies).

In the case of a patient who is rather a suspect of Fibromyalgia, the medical professional will start out by testing the pressure points on the patient’s body. According to a set of guidelines, if the doctor is testing 18 such pressure points and the patient finds them painful, then the chances of Fibromyalgia are quite high.

Further on, the doctor will run a blood test that is very good in diagnosing this syndrome. This test is called FM/a and it can determine whether or not certain markers are present in the blood cells (markers which, apparently, are present in all the patients suffering from Fibromyalgia).

Other than that, there are not many tests that can clearly determine the presence of Fibromyalgia, although doctors may choose to investigate the patient for other Fibromyalgia-related diseases as well (Arthritis, Hypothyroidism, renal diseases, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and so on).

Diagnosing correctly Fibromyalgia and Lupus is essential for the improvement of the patient’s health. Although the two medical conditions do show common things, their treatment may vary a lot and it may not be “transferrable”.

For instance, in the case of Lupus, measurements will be taken to avoid serious complications, while in the case of Fibromyalgia other than pain killers and anti-inflammatory drugs will not be administered (and, according to each case, anti-depressants and sleeping pills will be prescribed). In the case of Lupus, the same range of drugs may be used, but the dosages and the exact type may vary, according to each patient’s symptoms, medical history, and severity.

  • Young people reported worse fibromyalgia symptoms

Fibromyalgia is referred to as a worse chronic pain condition due to which a person’s muscles and tissues have painful tenderness and achiness. It can be shown up in the age between 20 to 30s, but most people can have this condition later in life.  Moderate to severe pain can arise in multiple areas of the body due to this chronic pain.

Young people find it difficult to deal with fibromyalgia because it can be very painful and devastating. The whole social life of a young person is disturbed. They start facing fatigue and might not get into being social and active anymore.

Young people should try their level best to get in touch with their social life and continue to indulge in the activities as possible and also involve in hobbies that can relieve stress and add joy and happiness in life, even if diagnosed with fibromyalgia.

Young people can have unbearable pain due to which they are unable to go out of the house and work all day. Fatigue, depression, and anxiety could be there in young people. These symptoms are serious and can be difficult to fight with like depression.

There should be extra energy reserves in young people so that they can use that energy to maintain their healthy social and personal life that makes them feel fulfilling. Going out with friends and family and maintaining a social circle is good for mind relaxation and not just for the condition.

If one doesn’t feel or want to get out of home and socialize for fun should find some other activities in which they have interest and that can help them in relaxing their mind. Such activities can give hope, like some art activity, some painting, or sketching. It could be listening to music. Every individual possesses different tastes and interests in chilling out and having fun.

A variety of symptoms of fibromyalgia is there in young people that cause early diagnosis. Widespread muscle pain, deep achy pain in muscles and tissue are included in these symptoms. More common symptoms include fatigue and tiredness.

These symptoms arise differently in different people. Some people face more intense pain than others have. Flare-ups arise and then go at different times. We can never have this idea of how much pain a person is bearing because fibromyalgia symptoms are all internal.

It feels so difficult to explain your condition to your friends, coworkers, and family. They think you are fine and good, just seems tired. Those who are experiencing it can only know how hard it is to face this fatigue and pain.

    Other symptoms include:

An accompanying condition of fibromyalgia is fibro fog that affects memory and focus.

The presence of these symptoms can be so discouraging and disheartening to young people, as they can feel hopeless and lonely. That is the reason why young people should maintain their social life as possible as they can and should make them busy to be normal in their life.

There should be a scheduled routine that doesn’t seem overwhelming, just to manage their pain from fibromyalgia. Their schedule should include rest and refreshing activities. Different activities are there for young people for enjoyment and fun.

Going to a movie can give pleasure to someone or going to get a happy drink with friends can give pleasure also. So many options are there but the point is how you choose them to make your life relaxing and positive.

It is a moment of discouragement when you are diagnosed with fibromyalgia at an early stage. Of course, there could be a way to live a satisfactory life with fibromyalgia. All you need is positivity, planning, and responsibility. Prevent yourself from getting overtired and burdened. You should cancel a plan if you are not feeling okay.

You can get a fulfilling life with proper management. All you need to do is stay positive and calm.

  • Why Our Sense of Smell Changes with Fibromyalgia

Someone dealing with fibromyalgia knows how overwhelming the symptoms are. There are such problems as fatigue, chronic pain, and brain fog that easily set off and turn into a worse flare that can last a day or two, a week, or even a month. This can happen too quickly. Sometimes this flare can happen with even a simple usual thing that no one even bothers like odor in the air.

    The sensitive syndrome

Patients having fibromyalgia are thought to be over-sensitive and no doubt is a correct label. It is true that many people having fibromyalgia deal with the syndrome on daily basis. Changes in temperature, noise, light, the smell are common with FMS.

People having fibromyalgia could have issues like headaches, pain, and the digestive problem with the lighting that seems normal to the healthy individual. Other things like smell can do the same thing that others don’t even bother to note.

    Hypersensitivity

With fibromyalgia, it can work in many ways. The person having FMS may find a smell so overwhelming, while the other one might have difficulty smelling it correctly. It’s all about how the brain processes fibromyalgia. Quality of life can be affected by this sensory overload.

You should tell each and every detail to your doctor because luckily there are some medications that may help in such cases. If this sensitivity is much serious, you may have Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS), which may have a different treatment than fibromyalgia.

Effect of smell on people with fibromyalgia

The impairment of the sense of smell is common with fibromyalgia and many autoimmune diseases. It can be more than just a feeling and can be harmful to your nose. Someone having FMS can feel ill with scented perfumes, cleaning agents, and detergents. He can have fatigue to nausea and headaches. FMS sufferers can feel worse due to the smell of food even.

It makes them feel not want to eat it or maybe the person starts eliminating that food from his/her diet, whether it is a healthy food item or not. This issue of overloading sensitivity has nothing concerned with allergies. So, you don’t need to take medicines like antihistamines and wait to get okay.

This problem is actually really serious and it can be that much severe that the person who has been affected by it will avoid going out in public. Because you can even feel sick with someone’s aftershave or deodorant.

    Avoidance of smells with fibromyalgia

There are certain things to improve your quality of life if you are dealing with sensitive issues with smell and suffering from fibromyalgia. You can keep everything unscented in your home like unscented soaps; detergents etc. try to look for those shampoos that are unscented. You can have a mask handy with you, so if you need to deal with any kind of odor, you can wear that mask to avoid the smell.

Make sure, the people who visit your home should know that you have a problem so as not to wear cologne in your home. Soon, your friends will get to know about the issue. You shouldn’t feel bad or awkward to remind them because people who care for you will understand you. It’s a matter of your health.

A well-ventilated house is good for you. If the room is odor-free, the fans will work there. Otherwise, you will be spreading smells around. Try to experiment with different herbs that don’t have a strong smell, while cooking. Like if you want to use more basil and less cumin. You may find some smell that will be less bothering for you and you feel ok with them.

Some studies have shown that the sense of smell with fibromyalgia can be improved by physical activity and also pain and fatigue. Walk, yoga, or tai chi can be useful for your problem.

  • Etiology of Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a condition that is still a mystery and doctors as well as individuals suffering from it get confused. No cure for fibromyalgia has still been found. Doctors don’t know the actual cause of fibromyalgia.

The belief of some doctors is that some circumstances cause this condition. Fibromyalgia is characterized by widespread severe pain all over the body. Those who are having fibromyalgia suffer physically and emotionally. More than 6 million people are suffering from it and more women are having fibromyalgia than men. Still, there is no cure.

    Fibromyalgia symptoms

Evaluate the signs and symptoms that arise with fibromyalgia, if you feel like you are having this disease. Keep this thing in mind that these signs have to be present for a longer time period, 6 or more months to consider it as fibromyalgia. A number of signs indicate that fibromyalgia is there in your body. Some of these include:

The doctors need to rule out other diseases before they determine that it is fibromyalgia because a lot of people are suffering from other diseases as well along with fibromyalgia-like some kind of allergies etc.

Different people have different symptoms and the effect of symptoms is different in different people. For a fibromyalgia sufferer, some days can be better than others. A person must have pain for more than 6 months to have fibromyalgia. The doctors should also perform many tests and exams as well.

Things to do if you have fibromyalgia

If you think that you are suffering from fibromyalgia, it is must consult your doctor for the diagnosis as well as get the right treatment. a lot of tests and procedures will be taken to ensure that you have fibromyalgia. The treatment will depend on the type of symptoms you have encountered.

Support groups are also good. They can be found locally, online or there can be a family member to support you. You can get help from them in a lot of ways. If you feel like you are not alone, this idea of feeling is even worth it and there can be a difference in your treatment. Your life can get easier with a few tips and tricks.

Sometimes pain medications are prescribed by the doctor to treat fibromyalgia and sometimes anti-inflammatory medications are also prescribed to reduce swelling and other symptoms as well. This depends upon the severity of pain you are having. Evaluation of your condition is important in giving you the right treatment.

Moreover, exercise is also good for the condition. It should be added to your daily routine. Fibromyalgia can make your life even worse than you have ever imagined and you may also find difficulties when it comes to physical activities. But if you add up exercise, it can actually reduce the severity level. You can consult your doctor about different exercises that might help you and which exercise you should give preference to. By doing this, you might not let fibromyalgia win the battle.

Rest should also be endorsed in your lifestyle. No doubt, there are a lot of things that you want to do but are unable to perform due to your condition. Do the things day by day. Try to avoid doing things together. Do not try to push yourself up to the limits on days you feel worse. Do that thing on days in which you are feeling good.

    Fibromyalgia and diet

Changes in your diet can help you in reducing pain. The doctor might recommend you change your diet. You might be deficient in the vitamins and nutrients to stay healthy if you are not taking the right food. Include fruits and vegetables in your diet. You have to make some changes to your diet. Various foods can be cooked for a fibro-approved diet and they should be on the menu.

    Bottom line

It is true that no cure has been discovered for fibromyalgia but there are some treatments that can help you in easing the symptoms and pain. If you are a fibromyalgia sufferer, you should consider these things to help to get yourself back to normal life. It is a new condition for the medical world. You can live with fibromyalgia if you know what you should do. don’t allow fibromyalgia to dominate your life.

  • Fibromyalgia pain go away

    Fibromyalgia pain might go away

The medical world can act as a confusing one sometimes. But if you think that doctor knows how to lead the condition from worse to better make you feel hopeful and secure.

What do you think, when it feels like neither the researchers nor the doctors know how to treat your disease?

Fibromyalgia has been in debate for a very long time. There are a lot of theories related to it but the patients haven’t gotten accurate answers to their questions about the disease. Even its name was not developed and it didn’t have any status. Some doctors related it to depression. The symptoms of fibromyalgia correlate with other medical conditions that seem to be a problem for researchers and doctors.

But now, the existence of fibromyalgia is acknowledged. Sometimes, it can be very hard to live with this disease. Sometimes, you have to change your lifestyle to cope up with this disease. However, hope is rising with every new day that arises. Someday, someone will find an actual treatment of this condition. Until then, patients have to treat all the symptoms separately.

    Understanding of fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is hard to understand. Even, diagnosing fibromyalgia can be problematic. Different people have different symptoms of it and they show differently. Sometimes there are symptoms that occur due to other conditions like rheumatic diseases, depression, and anxiety, and so on.

Widespread pain is one of the major symptoms of fibromyalgia that can worsen your life. However, a lot of symptoms are there too which can make your life even worse.

For example, patients with FMS can suffer from headaches; memory issues, etc., and also sleep disturbances. Some symptoms that are often found in people with FMS includes facial tenderness, various types of sensitivity (to odors, light, medication, certain types of food, etc.), numbness and tingling feelings in the hands, feet, arms, and other areas of the body, fatigue, muscle pain, and twitching and decreased energy.

After considering all these things, you might be able to get to know that it is difficult to know the actual cause of this syndrome, and also it is difficult to cure and treat it as well.

    Treatments available for fibromyalgia

The determined cause that has been proved yet would eventually lead to the development of treatment. Till now, fibromyalgia treatment has been given as symptomatic, which means there is a separate treatment of every symptom.

Therefore, patients with FMS are given those medications that help in treating the symptoms the patient is experiencing. The first prescribed thing will be pain medication. Anti-depressants are also prescribed due to the fact that depression also occurs in patients with FMS and also due to some theories that the high level of serotonin can help with amelioration of symptoms.

Moreover, other medication related to the symptoms can also be prescribed like sleeping pills. In addition to some medications, the doctor might say that you need to change your lifestyle. You need to be careful about what you eat, what you do, how your body reacts to certain foods, what you watch when to rest etc.

Moreover, doctors highly recommend doing exercises, light yoga, meditation, Tai Chi, physiotherapy, or acupuncture. These have been proved effective for the patients for the treatment.  It is important to start all these under someone’s guidance.

Which medication is considered to be one of the best?

Mostly, some doctors prioritize giving such medications that are helpful for pain and then prescribe other types of the pill as well. Some doctors might prescribe the patient some anti-depressants.

Lyrica is the very first drug that has been approved by FDA in 2007 (Marketed by Pfizer Inc.,). Originally, diabetic peripheral neuropathy, seizures, and pain related to the shingles rash were mainly intended to be treated with this drug, but now it is approved for fibromyalgia as well.

You should keep in mind that there can be some side effects of this drug like dizziness, lack of focus, poor memory, weight gain, dry mouth, or even swelling. Some people might have allergic reactions to this drug.

There are other two drugs that have been approved by FDA. One is Cymbalta (Originally, anxiety, depression, and diabetic peripheral neuropathy were treated by it) and the other is Savella (that seems to have similar side effects to anti-depressants).

  • Overlook on the 10 causes of Fibromyalgia

As fibromyalgia is referred to as a neurological condition that has a variety of symptoms, but the most highlighted one is the widespread pain in tender points all over the body. The diagnosis and the treatment are still a challenge because the causes of the syndrome are still a mystery. More than 10 million people are suffering from this syndrome.

The treatment is still of trial and error because it hasn’t been discovered yet, how fibromyalgia actually works. This can be a challenge also to diagnose the syndrome and then the doctor will give you combine drugs and some remedies to get you in a normal state. Here are some causes of the syndrome that should be overlooked by you and doctors as well:

    Intolerance of gluten

It is actually an autoimmune disorder and also called celiac disease. In wheat and other grains, gluten is present. The intolerance in you is due to genetics. It means if this disease is present in your family, you are more likely to have this disease then.

It is also related to what you eat. It is autoimmune in nature so it is not necessary to be present as a digestive issue, rather it can be present as a neurological condition. Pain, cognitive impairment, behavioral issues, fatigue, sleep disturbances, and depression might be present in patients. These are similar to the symptoms of fibromyalgia, so they can create confusion.

55 different diseases are linked with gluten intolerance. So, it means your symptoms can be determined by dietary issues.

    Overgrowth of Candida

Candida is a natural as well as considered to be a helpful part of natural creatures of our intestines. A small proportion of it is living in our intestines. This yeast started getting overproduced when your intake of sugar gets high. It is difficult to avoid taking too much sugar while you are living in North America. Many foods are already possessed with a great deal of sugar, so you need to be aware of it.

This beneficial yeast breaks down the wall of the intestines and enters into the bloodstream, due to which toxic by-products are released into your body and unpleasant symptoms like brain fog, digestive issues, pain, and fatigue are caused, when there is too much candida. Anyone who is having fibromyalgia can have similar symptoms. But again, this can be an outcome of your diet.

    Thyroid

Fibromyalgia and hypothyroidism can have similar symptoms. Hypothyroidism and fibromyalgia have a lot of neurological complaints in common such as brain fog, sleep issues, and depression. One major difference in both of them is that patient feels so much pain when suffering from fibromyalgia, while hypothyroid patients do not suffer from this issue.

So, it is really important that your doctor should check whether your thyroid is working properly or not. It can be checked through a blood test, and a person having fibromyalgia can often have negative reports. It might mean that the test that has measured the hormone levels can be a little outside of the standard. So, rather than checking standard levels, your doctor will need to check for “optimal” levels.

    Deficiency in Vitamin

There might be a deficiency in various vitamins and minerals in people with fibromyalgia. These levels can be checked from a standard blood test. Magnesium, vitamin D, and B12 are common vitamins that are deficient in people with fibromyalgia. These deficiencies can be supplemented by pills available in medical stores or grocery stores.

Leaky gut and small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO)

Our body contains a lot of bacteria than we have cells. The majority of the bacteria present in our body are useful and essential for the proper functioning of our body. We find it difficult to absorb the nutrients when there is an over or under population of bacteria. It can be through antibiotics or too much sugar intake.

SIBO or leaky gut can be formed due to the unbalancing of intestinal flora or bacteria. Too much intake of gluten can cause both these conditions and can lead you towards gluten and other food intolerances. As a result, you can suffer from fibromyalgia. In anyone having fibromyalgia, this shows the importance of dealing with digestive issues along with the problems caused by candida.

    Mycotoxins

Environmental factors, as well as issues with the body itself, can cause fibromyalgia. Mycotoxins are toxic substances that are released by some patterns in the environment. You can suffer from fibromyalgia symptoms due to these toxins. These elevated levels can be determined from a blood test.

If this issue is found in your case, you can move from your office to an area that is less moldy, and there you can get treated for the toxins that caused your sufferings. Of course, it could be difficult for you to remove it from your environment if it is in your home.

    Mercury harmfulness

A lot of people have teeth that contain silver fillings. Whenever you chew, grind your teeth, or clean your teeth, some mercury is released in your body because these fillings are about half mercury. Other sources of mercury are also there in the environment. Fertilizers, car exhaust, pesticides, fish, fabric softeners, floor waxes, paint pigments, batteries, polishes, body powders, mascara, air conditioning filters, and drinking water can be found with mercury.

Fibromyalgia can be caused due to this mercury among various other diseases and syndromes, that includes arthritis, ALS, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, acrodynia, autism, eczema, Crohn’s, emphysema, and asthma. Unfortunately, it isn’t easy to test the level of mercury because mercury is locked in tissues rather than just floating in the blood. But you can investigate your silver fillings.

    Adrenal exhaustion

Slowing down of adrenal glands to the level in which you feel the difficulty is adrenal exhaustion. Long-term stress and long-term infections can be the reason for arising. The patient gets a feeling of chronic exhaustion and then he starts to self-medicate himself with coffee, colas, or other stimulants.

Most often, fibromyalgia and adrenal exhaustion go together. There might often be a certain amount of adrenal gland malfunction in people with FMS. It is not clear yet that either adrenal exhaustion is caused due to the prolonged stress of FMS or this exhaustion caused FMS first.

    MTHFR mutations

MTHFR genes might have certain changes. The production of the enzymes is regulated by the gene that processes folate so that it can be used by the body. The normal process of Methylation gets disrupted by the dysfunctioning of this gene, due to which many essential body functions can be affected and thereby FMS can cause.

This mutation can be treated to some extent. Some of the nutrients can be substituted by dietary supplements that you aren’t taking due to the problems with the MTHFR gene.

A genetic test can be done to find out the condition of this gene.

    Deficiency of Glutathione

An essential part of the body’s immune system is Glutathione. It is considered to be the necessary antioxidant in cells as well as the primary agent responsible for detoxification. It is basically a small protein that is produced by the cells naturally. It also has the ability to control pain. Unfortunately, there is a deficiency of this protein in FMS sufferers.

Pills cannot fulfill this deficiency, but they can be produced in the cells themselves. Therefore, you need to take more glutathione precursors in your diet more. Either the food that you take or the supplements you consume can fulfill this deficiency.

There are a number of things that are causing fibromyalgia. Because there is no simple test to diagnose FMS, so it is necessary to overlook all the options. As you have seen, many of these conditions are dependent on dietary issues. The first thing you and your doctor can do is regulate your diet. Obviously, it cannot be the only concern but still, it plays an important part in dealing with FMS.

  • Facing Adversity In Early Life And Its Connection To Fibromyalgia

Research is done to study the impact of early life events on a person’s later life. It was to measure how much the childhood environment and events affect the psychological life of a person.

It is the disorder that not only increases the sensitivity of pain but has a number of other co-morbidities. In the world of health and medicine, the primary cause of the disorder is still unknown.

There is still no verifiable indication of the causes or factors of the development of fibromyalgia. A number of theories are present but unfortunately, none of them is necessary to evidence to prove the facts of this disorder. Women being more affected than men, this disorder overall affects almost two percent of the population.

The symptoms often related to fibromyalgia are:

Several risk factors that lead to the development of fibromyalgia has been reported by path physiologies

    Risk Factors

One very important factor that has been under quite a bit of research is painful experiences that are felt during childhood. These pain experiences cause long-term adaptation in the processing of pain by the brain. Proper treatments are needed by the infants that are born with some specific sickness or children with premature births or those born under stressful situations.

Newborns are likely to be subjected to many painful procedures in the clinical stages of neonatal intensive care that have the possibility of being performed daily with routine monitoring. Such newborns that need early hospitalization could have to face fourteen very painful procedures per day.

Recent research has shown that almost eighty percent of infants who face stressful procedures due to premature births or illness were not given proper analgesia prior to the procedure.

Children may have negative effects and experience significant changes in brains for processing of the pain due to the long-lasting high frequency of such procedures. The abnormal processing of pain in patients facing this disorder is the result of such infant abnormalities.

By providing necessary pain management techniques to neonatal patients such Physiological disturbances can be prevented. The pain management techniques to accomplish levels of pain are not easily affordable.

Morphine and some benzodiazepines treatments are used for pain experienced after surgery and for general sedation for neonates. Some non-medical techniques that could be administered to neonates including sucrose are helpful.

According to studies for long-term chronic exposure, such techniques don’t work that efficiently. The adequate amounts of pain management for neonates should be discovered to reduce various types of pain syndromes, including fibromyalgia is still under discussion and research.

    Maternal Deprivation

Lack of warmth and motherhood relation is a major risk factor for future development of fibromyalgia according to research. The child-mother bond states the emotional reactivity of the child throughout their life and the type of relations that will be created with others.

A strong mother-baby relation has proven to be fruitful for the healthy development of the baby. A weak and improper relation results in consistent chronic pain and issues of coping with chronic pain. According to studies, those patients will have intense levels of pain who have constant ignoring and emotionless relations.

Patients show high even unbearable levels where there is a very weak and strangely low relation. Adults with healthy bonding styles take acute pain tests and have low-intensity levels. A direct link between the opioidergic and dopamine system and a person’s living environment has been shown and this study suggests that when a parent and infant are strongly attached, the child has far fewer possibilities of getting affected by such disorders.

Physical and Psychological Trauma in Early Childhood

Children who experience physical and sexual abuse are more likely to develop fibromyalgia. Early life abuse results in a number of behavioral problems and types of pathological issues. Like heavy depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse, alcoholism, stoutness, and even suicide.

Unfortunately, the same problems are associated with fibromyalgia. Several studies have shown a link between childhood abuse and early life traumas with fibromyalgia. These links also elaborate disruption of neurotransmitter systems that will affect a person’s capacity to manage stress.

When early age traumas, abuses, neonatal complications, and the parent-infant bond strength are considered, fibromyalgia is high to be discussed. However there is no significant evidence to prove this fact, still, the studies and the connections documented in the research can serve as the basis for several future works in this field.

The search for the primary factors for the development of fibromyalgia disorder is constantly under discussion and observation. Persistent efforts are made by researchers to get people aware of the disorder. A proper treatment procedure is likely to be discovered after the clear identification of the root cause.

  • Most painful points in fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is known to be a very painful and chronic disease and there are some guidelines for anyone diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Doctors will do a lot of tests and exams that range from some blood tests to every single examination of the symptoms to determine if the person is having fibromyalgia or not. Identifying pressure points is the most effective test of all.

You might think that you have widespread pain throughout the body and indeed you might have. But, there are some specific pressure points on your body that doctors test to check whether you have pain in these points or not. It is believed by a lot of researchers and professionals that the central problem of the pain in fibromyalgia can be determined by these pressure points.

    Pressure points in fibromyalgia

In examining fibromyalgia, doctors put pressure on these points to check the severity of pain there. So doctors find it difficult to diagnose fibromyalgia if you may have pain all over the body. They have to check these pressure points and base their decisions on them. The back neck, shoulders, above the knees, hips, upper chest, elbows, and upper part of buttocks are included in pressure points.

Only lab tests can’t identify that whether there is a pain in these pressure points or not. There has to be a physical exam of these pressure points and this exam will take 10 to 15 minutes. You have to tell the feeling you get by having pressure on these points, whether you are having pain or not.

You should have widespread pain in all four quadrants of your body for more than three months and when the pressure is applied to these points, you should have severe pain in at least these pressure points in order to be diagnosed with fibromyalgia.

In this method, the level of accuracy is high and there are 90% chances that the doctor will make the correct diagnosis. This test is found to be more accurate than other tests.

Your doctor will never apply too much pressure to make you feel pain either way. Enough of the pressure is applied in order to know how you feel. You can try it yourself by applying pressure.

    Trigger points

Treating fibromyalgia has another aspect and that is “trigger points”. There are 90% of the pressure points that also trigger points. So, what is the difference between them? Trigger points are referred to as nodules that you feel in tight muscles. The trigger points make you feel pain as well as send pain throughout your body if you apply pressure on these points.

In a similar way, when you apply pressure to pressure points, it will only cause pain in that area where you have applied pressure and won’t send pain all over the body. There is another difference between these two and that is the motion you can make can be restricted by trigger points but can’t be restricted by pressure points.

As we have mentioned earlier that there are 90% of pressure points that also trigger points. In fact, this is a beneficial thing. It is beneficial in the sense that a lot of therapies and treatments are there in reducing pain in the body, and if only one of your trigger points gets relieved by pain, it will help you in reducing the pain of other trigger and pressure points as well.

You can take hot showers or baths, massage, or you can do anything that relieves tension in muscles that can help you in relieving the pain of your trigger and pressure points.

What to do if you don’t clear the treatment?

Keep in mind that you should have pain in at least 11 out of 18 pressure points in order to be diagnosed with fibromyalgia. If you have pain in less than 11 points that it is good news for you that you are not having fibromyalgia. The bad news is that you still don’t know your illness and you are still experiencing pain.

It is believed by many researchers that if you have pain from less than 11 pressure points, you can still have fibromyalgia. This is the reason why a lot of professionals and doctors have tossed out this idea in the diagnosis of fibromyalgia. Yet, there will be a formulation of another diagnosis process that will be more effective as this process was.

Stay in touch with every latest news and research on fibromyalgia if you agree with your doctor that the process of pressure points is not an effective process for diagnosing fibromyalgia. A lot of doctors still believe this process to be effective. So get an opinion from your personal doctor.

  • How much similar do Arthritis and Fibromyalgia are?

Arthritis is considered one of the most common diseases related to bones. The statistic shows that more than 50 million Americans in the US suffer from some form of arthritis. Yet, this disease is somehow, still a mystery.

Like arthritis, fibromyalgia is not so common but around 5 million Americans are suffering from it. But fibromyalgia is so much similar to arthritis that it gets difficult to diagnose fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia and arthritis both are mysterious and can affect one’s life so much that the person feels hard to do daily activities.

    Arthritis and its treatment

Arthritis is a disease in which joints get inflamed and painful. It is believed that 100 forms of arthritis are present and osteoarthritis is considered to be the common one. More quite common forms are rheumatoid arthritis and also gout, psoriatic arthritis, and septic arthritis.

People show joint pain as a symptom of it which becomes so persistent and confined. The developing of stiffness and swelling of joints occur too. Moreover, some other symptoms like poor sleeping, tenderness, muscle aches, malaise, unable to use hands or feet properly, and much more appear too.

Different things cause different forms of arthritis. For instance, the natural wear and tear of joints cause osteoarthritis which is the reason for appearing later on in life. Infection in the joint causes septic arthritis. However, it is difficult to explain rheumatoid arthritis in the real sense of the word.

As rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease so it develops without any actual reason. When there is a virus in the body or an infection that needs to be eliminated, the body’s immune cells are created. However, the body’s immune cells start to attack healthy tissues in case of an autoimmune disease. These immune cells start to attack the joints in various body parts without having any reason, in the case of rheumatoid arthritis.

There is no cure for arthritis but yes it can have treatments. Paracetamol is prescribed in osteoarthritis and ibuprofen in rheumatoid arthritis. Doctors start prescribing other medications as well when these less harmful drugs cannot perform their job anymore.

Moreover, physical therapy is good for patients with arthritis, as it helps to lessen the pain and stiffness. Some other therapies which are believed to perform well are also used in arthritis-like Tai Chi, Yoga, acupuncture, and other eastern practices.

Weigh loss and constant exercise can lead you towards a healthy lifestyle. It can turn one’s life from pain to a normal life. There are a lot of patients who are managing their life successfully with arthritis.

    Why is fibromyalgia so complicated?

If things are clear for arthritis (except for rheumatoid arthritis), fibromyalgia makes everything complicated. Fibromyalgia is considered to be a syndrome and not a disease, so there are a lot of symptoms of fibromyalgia, some of which become the worst types. Chronic widespread pain is the major symptom that fibromyalgia patients show. You should keep in mind that like arthritis, fibromyalgia is not localized.

Fibromyalgia brings a lot of symptoms other than pain that includes sleeping issues, anxiety, depression, headaches, stiffness, bowels problems, swelling, joint pain (and even arthritis as a co-morbid condition), bladder problems, cognitive issues (fibro fog), and many more symptoms that can be unbearable for pain.

It is so much difficult to put the right diagnosis as there are a lot of symptoms. While it is easy to diagnose arthritis with some tests, fibromyalgia is usually diagnosed by identifying a series of 18 tender points, examining the symptoms, and ruling out the other medical conditions as well. Fibromyalgia can be spotted out by only one kind of test but this test is out of range for many people due to its cost and many insurance companies haven’t covered it yet.

Moreover, it is so much difficult to explain or find fibromyalgia causes. A lot of researchers have put theories about the causes of fibromyalgia but these theories seem like putting forth the risk factors instead of causes that lead towards fibromyalgia.

There are a lot of things that seem to play a role in developing fibromyalgia-like poor sleeping patterns, chemical imbalances, depression, genetics, and lack of proper functioning of pain neurotransmitters. But, there is no one who can tell for sure which one of these actually causes fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia and arthritis have some similarities but their nature is totally different. Both of them run in family and are enigmatic to some extent. Both of them do not have any cure but they do have treatments with medications and therapies etc. however, you should need to know that fibromyalgia treatment frequently goes beyond pain medications and that FDA-approved drugs are prescribed to patients for the treatment which are alike to anti-depressants.

It is important to differentiate between fibromyalgia and arthritis. Both of these conditions could get better from exercises, therapies, home remedies, and alternative practices. Fibromyalgia may need different drugs than arthritis if we talk about medications. Make sure which condition you are having and take adequate treatment for that. It can help you in living a happier and normal life.
